Wrangell-St. Elias National Park

Located in the state of Alaska

An over 8 million acres (32,375 km2) plot of mountainous country, the largest National Park in the system protects the convergence of the Alaska, Chugach, and Wrangell-Saint Elias Ranges, which include many of the continent's tallest mountains and volcanoes, including the 18,008-foot Mount Saint Elias. More than a quarter of the park is covered with glaciers, including the tidewater Hubbard Glacier, piedmont Malaspina Glacier, and valley Nabesna Glacier.

  • Must be restrained or kept on a leash no longer than 6 feet at all times.
  • Dogs must wear a collar with current tags at all times
  • Pick up after your dog at all times – Leave no trace

Leash Laws: Most parks require dogs to be on a leash in some or all areas, however, some parks allow dogs off leash in certain locations, please consult the parks website before going off leash, Thank you!

  • Respect local wildlife.
  • Leave no trace – What you bring in, you bring out.
  • Keep in mind that a dog running loose might bring an unwanted surprise, in the form of a bear or even a moose, back to the master. Also remember that dogs may be running loose on private property (like in the town of McCarthy) – these dogs may not get along well with your dog, even if your dog is on a leash.
